Notebook from 91-89 loss to Mercury
For the first time since June 19 and 21, the Valkyries (19-9) lost consecutive games. They fell to Washington going into the All-Star break before Wednesday’s loss in Phoenix, marking their fourth loss to non-Minnesota and Las Vegas teams.
This was just the third time this season the Valkyries have allowed a team to shoot 49% or better from the field. Phoenix has done that twice, despite having lost their other two matchups against the Valkyries earlier this season. It was also the third time this season the Valkyries have forced 10 or fewer turnovers in a game.
Gabby Williams didn’t dress for the second game in July, this time for “reconditioning” coming back from the All-Star Game, where she started. She missed a game against Connecticut earlier this season with a back contusion.
The Valkyries are now a half game behind Las Vegas for second place in the league standings, and will host Toronto for a pair of games next week.
