There is still something for the Golden State Valkyries to play for over their final four regular-season games. They are in position to finish with the No. 2 seed in the WNBA playoffs, and with some help, could still catch Minnesota for the top spot.

But with several key players returning from a grueling FIBA Women’s World Cup and an awkward schedule that begins with a back-to-back, the Valkyries appear more concerned with entering the postseason healthy than squeezing everything they can out of the final week.

“Everyone’s different, so I’m giving them their space and time,” head coach Natalie Nakase said Wednesday, her first day back at practice with the team. “I want them to be healthy after this four-game stretch (to end the regular season).”
