Janelle Salaun catches the ball, then waits. Inevitably, a defender leaps up, hand in her face, before Salaun skitters to her right, raises her arms high above her head and fires.

That’s the kind of shooter she is; when she sees a lane to take an attempt, she’s going to take it, hand in her face or not, sidestepping away or luring in a guard not prepared for her willingness to shoot anyway.

“She’s an impressive human being,” Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase told Valkyries Beat. "She always empties the tank. That’s just Ja… She can be a lethal scorer.”
