Natalie Nakase has mentioned “stay ready games” a lot this season. I answered a question in a recent mailbag about what these are, but on Saturday, I got to watch one of them for the first time in person.
The Valkyries stay ready unit is currently Juste Jocyte, Nadia Fingall, Ashten Prechtel and Miela Sowah. Jocyte is their 2025 first-round pick who has played in garbage time at the end of games, while Fingall is on a replacement contract with Iliana Rupert out and has played very little since July.
Both Prechtel and Sowah are on developmental deals. Prechtel put up an 18-minute showing against the Sky on Wednesday night while Kiah Stokes was out. Sowah was activated in four regular season games, but she only got on the court in two of those four games.
