The Golden State Valkyries have stayed busy.

On Monday morning, they announced they re-signed veteran Kayla Thornton to a one-year deal and added free agent center Kiah Stokes to a multi-year contract.

Thornton was the Valkyries’ All-Star last season and was having a career season before she tore her meniscus at the end of July.

"Kayla had an extraordinary season for this franchise and for herself," said Valkyries general manager Ohemaa Nyanin in a statement. "She became our first-ever All-Star, and also stepped up as a leader for a new roster from day one. Kayla brings relentless work ethic and an unshakeable belief in this team.”

Terms of the contract are not immediately available.

Thornton led the Valkyries with career highs of 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, scoring in double figures in 18 of her 22 games played.

She told Valkyries Beat reporter Marisa Ingemi in December that she expected to be ready for training camp.

Her return leaves just Tiffany Hayes and Temi Fagbnele left as unrestricted free agents. Golden State signed both its restricted free agents, Veronica Burton and Cecilia Zandalasini, this weekend.

The 33-year-old Stokes is a three-time WNBA champion with the Las Vegas Aces. She has averaged 3.3 points and 5.4 rebounds and a 48.5% field-goal percentage in a 10-year WNBA career.

"Kiah is a strong defender and a great addition to our team," said Nyanin. "She has won three WNBA championships and was coached by coach (Natalie) Nakase in Las Vegas, so she understands what we are building here and what it takes to win."

The Valkyries also announced they signed forward Cate Reese to a training camp contract. Reese, 26, played five seasons at Arizona. She averaged 15.4 points and 10.6 rebounds across nine EuroCup games for Poland’s MB Zaglebie Sosnowie last season.
