Cecilia Zandalasini has a reputation as a shoot-first player. With the Valkyries last season, she showed flashes of being a top offensive talent between injuries and time away at EuroBasket.
They kept her in restricted free agency, protecting her instead of now-starting Portland point guard Carla Leite. The Valkyries wanted to invest in Zandalasini’s development and saw her as a go-to shooter late in games. After all, they gave her the lost shot of the season against Minnesota in the playoffs to conclude the 2025 season.
Zandalasini’s 45.1% effective field goal percentage is the lowest since her rookie season back in 2017. She is playing six fewer minutes per game than a season ago despite starting the last seven games.
It’s been a bit of an awkward start.
